At FMO, we pride ourselves on being a market created by integrity and trust. This is why FMO conducts annual inspections with our vendors to ensure food safety and integrity behind our product brand. Our inspections take us over the river and through the woods, and into the barnyards, kitchens and workshops of some great local people – like Ann Horsman of Sharpen-All in Niangua, MO!
About Sharpen-All: A sharp knife can be your best friend in the kitchen or in your pocket – and Ann Horsman can help you stay sharp with her unique services that she provides to our FMO customers. It’s said that you should never cut with a dull knife – a sharp knife is actually safer. Sharpen-All to the rescue! The Sharpen-All booth features state of the art equipment for sharpening, grinding and polishing knives, scissors and other equipment.
Not only does Ann offer knife sharpening at the market, but she also sells beautiful eggs from her free range hens, and wild mushrooms foraged from her farm! She is a knowledgable poultry producer, and also a certified mycologist.
Ann’s farm in Niangua, MO, is home to almost 100 chickens, turkeys and exotic poultry, a Great Pyrenees puppy, and abundant wildlife. Part of Ann’s goals for her farm include restoration of native forages, trees and aquatic life – deer, herons, toads, monarch butterflies and caterpillars, and songbirds of all kinds are just a sampling of the native flora and fauna that call her farm home.
The poultry at Sharpen-All headquarters are provided with plenty of access to insects, forages, and dust bathing sites – it is not uncommon to have a few feathered friends follow around visitors to the farm! Ann takes pride in her hens, and even takes some of her purebred exotics to poultry shows. Be sure to ask how the flock is doing when you stop by at market on Saturdays to buy eggs, or get your knife sharpened!
